This ordinance, the Board of trade will doubt have regard to the question of whether its provisions apply to transactions taking place outside the limits of the Colony and intra vires of the Hongkong &c. &c.

It is observed that under (probate duty will not be payable in Mr. Koy Lin's case) section 4(8) shares in respect of a company, registered in Hongkong but carrying on business altogether outside the Colony, which avails itself of the provisions of the Ordinance will not be liable to probate duty in Hongkong?
In this connection I am to forward for the information of the Board a copy letter from the Foreign Office regarding a case in which probate duty was claimed both in Hongkong where the Company was registered & in Shanghai where its operations were carried on.
